Regulations at a glance

  • Unvented hot water: follow the building regulations for the installation location. Use a competent unvented hot water installer. In England, a qualification demonstrates competence but does not itself remove notification: use an appropriate competent person scheme to self-certify, or notify building control before work starts. Scotland and Wales have their own applicable guidance.Approved Document G, 2024, paras 3.40 to 3.42
  • At least two independent safety devices in addition to any thermostat, for example a non self-resetting energy cut-out and a temperature and pressure relief valve.Approved Document G, 2024, paras 3.17 to 3.18
  • R290 is a natural refrigerant, not an F-gas. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, including the R290 guidance.TCL installation and service manual, on request
  • Can be specified as part of a Boiler Upgrade Scheme-funded system. Check current Ofgem scheme rules for each installation.Ofgem BUS installer guidance, version 5, paras 3.80 to 3.83
